Type Coin Collecting

The goal of type coin collecting is simple: to get one coin of each design. This is a much simpler process than trying to get all of the different dates and mintmarks. clicking on the coin type will take you to further explanations about the series. Below each coin type are some auctions for the coins. Generally type collectors will try to get the highest grade of the most common date.

Half cent type collecting

A complete half cent type collection is quite small. There wre only five different coins (I actually count six because the 1794 liberyy cap cent is a diffrent design from the 1795 to 1797 -- at leastinmy opinion. The first year's issue (head facing left) is rare. The liberty cap half cents from1794 to 1797 ar also scarce. Half cents did not circulate well -- especially in the later years. Therefore, many survive in prime condition.
